Biography

Cyril Gerbron obtained a PhD in art history from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2012. He was a fellow at Villa I Tatti – The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in 2014-2015 and has taught at the universities of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Lyon 2 Lumière, Grenoble Alpes, and the Institut National du Patrimoine. He is the author of Fra Angelico. Liturgy and memory (Turnhout, 2016) and articles on 15th-century Italian painting, on Callisto Piazza, Bronzino and Juan Sánchez Cotán. With Francesca Alberti and Jérémie Koering, he co-edited the book Thinking strangeness. The history of Italian Renaissance art between strangeness, extravagance and singularity (Rennes, 2012). He is also preparing two studies on the role of religion in the series Orange Is the New Black and on the power of images in The Young Pope.
