To mark the centenary of the birth of writer Italo Calvino (1923 – 1985), Villa Medici is hosting the third day of the international conference Calvino guarda il mondo. Pluralità, coesione, metamorfosi, dedicated to the work of the Italian fabulist. From October 19 to 21, 2023, the Calvino guarda il mondo. Pluralità, coesione, metamorfosi, organized by La Sapienza University, the National Committee for the Celebrations of Italo Calvino, the Calvino Laboratory, the National Library of Rome and the Italian Ministry of Culture, is dedicated to the literary production of Italo Calvino. Over 3 days, his work will be approached and discussed from an interdisciplinary perspective, thanks to the participation of numerous literary experts, scientists, historians, anthropologists, geographers and specialists in architecture and the visual arts. The third and final day of this international conference takes place at Villa Medici. The morning begins with a working session entitled Architectures, featuring author Bruno Falcetto, architect Alberto Ferlenga, art critic Vincenzo Trione, film critic Gianni Canova, architect Fabio di Carlo and Italo Calvino’s Japanese translator Tadahiko Wada. In the afternoon, writers Paul Fournel, Hervé Le Tellier, Giorgio Vasta, Nadia Terranova and Claudia Durastanti take part in a round-table discussion in Italian and French, coordinated by Fabio Gambaro.
