Villa Medici, in collaboration with the MATTERS.xyz collective, is hosting a discussion featuring the British anthropologist Tim Ingold, the environmental design consultancy atmos lab, and the architectural studios PRÌA and VELIA, within the pavilion they created for the 2026 Festival des Cabanes.

While the climate is measured using sensors and technical devices, the atmosphere is felt through and on the skin. By bringing together the arts and sciences, this series of events explores how atmospheric ecology can be understood as an experience that is at once sensory, biological, and political.

Following a performance by sound artist Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, presented in June as part of the 2026 Nuit des Cabanes, this second event will take the form of a reflection on the concept of atmosphere(s) through the lenses of space, ecology, and politics.

Held in the garden of the Aquifère cabin designed by PRÌA and VELIA, the event will begin with a lecture by anthropologist Tim Ingold, followed by a panel discussion featuring Florencia Collo of the environmental design consulting firm atmos lab, as well as Elsa Molinard of PRÌA and Giorgio Azzariti of VELIA.

The event will be moderated by Valentin Bansac and Alice Loumeau (MATTERS.xyz).

Tim Ingold

Tim Ingold (born in 1948) is professor emeritus of social anthropology at the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom and a member of the British Academy and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He is the author of *The Perception of the Environment* (Routledge, 2000), *Lines: A Brief History* (Routledge, 2016), and other works. He spent twenty-five years at the University of Manchester, where he was appointed to the Max Gluckman Chair in Social Anthropology in 1995. A central aspect of Ingold’s work has always been his critical exploration of the links between the perception of the environment and expert practice. atmos lab
atmos lab is an independent environmental design consulting firm founded following completion of the Master of Sustainable Environmental Design program offered by the Architectural Association in London. Its team members are architects or engineers who have completed specialized studies in environmental design and building physics. Florencia Collo (Director) holds a degree in architecture from the University of Buenos Aires (FADU, UBA) and completed postgraduate studies as part of the Master of Sustainable Environmental Design program at the Architectural Association. She has taught the history of architecture and urban planning (FADU, UBA) and currently teaches a course on environmental design at Torcuato Di Tella University. She is also a member of PLEA (Passive Low Energy Architecture).
PRÌA and VELIA
PRÌA and VELIA are participating in the Villa Medici Cabanes Festival 2026.

PRÌA (Antoine Gouachon, Elsa Molinard, and Giacomo Monari) is a studio of architect-artisans who create simple, sustainable architecture that is deeply respectful of the environment.

VELIA (Giorgio Azzariti and Edoardo Cappella) is a collective working at the intersection of architecture, research, and teaching.
