To mark European Heritage Days, visit the Villa Medici, which has been the seat of the French Academy in Rome since 1803. Take a moment to contemplate its Renaissance gardens, discover the long history of this place and learn about the great figures who have lived there, from Messalina to Ferdinand de’ Medici, and from Ingres to Balthus.

Two types of visits are available:

Free self-guided visit

Three areas of Villa Medici are freely accessible: the Grand Salon, the Piazzale and the Festival des Cabanes in the gardens.

Guided tour

A tour lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes through the gardens and the historic apartments of Cardinal Ferdinando de’ Medici. The tour traces the history of the site, from its ancient origins through the transformations of the Renaissance and the contemporary era. It offers the opportunity to discover some of Villa Medici’s most emblematic spaces, from the gardens to the historic apartments, as well as more hidden areas such as Ferdinando de’ Medici’s studiolo, also known as the Stanza degli Uccelli (Bird Room).

Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the guided tour. The meeting point is in the Villa Medici lobby, next to the ticket office.
