Pascal Gautrand

Profession: Designer Born in 1974, Pascal Gautrand has been a freelance stylist and graphic designer since 1999. After training as a stylist, he completed a course in textile design and creation at ESAAT in Roubaix, followed by a year’s specialization in fashion and textile management at the Institut Français de la Mode in Paris. Over the course of assignments, collaborations and personal projects, her work has been enriched by a variety of means of expression: fashion design with a line of T-shirts for the Belgian brand Own and costume design for Véronique Caye’s stage productions, as well as graphic design and illustrations for Christian Dior Parfums and éditions IFM/Regard. Thanks to the experience he acquired during these interventions, he developed a reflection on the fashion system through personal projects in photography, video and styling: > 13 Dresses (1998): Series of 13 dresses based on the archetypal “little black dress”, fabric laminations with various garments. Installation / Fashion Lab – New York, 1998 > Serial T-Shirts (1998-1999): 588 unique, numbered pieces recreated from a collection of vintage T-shirts. Performance, installation and fashion show / ESAAT – Roubaix, 1998 Installation / Fashion Lab – New York, 1998 Video installation / Salon Casabo – Paris, 1999 > Label XVI (2001-2003) : Over 2000 unique pieces produced and distributed in Paris (Maria Luisa, Le Bon Marché…) and Asia (Seibu, D-mop…). Participation in the B-shirt touring exhibition, organized by i-D magazine – London, 2003 > Multiple Vs. Unique (2004): 2′ video, a reflection on the cyclicality and repetitiveness of the fashion system. > Souvenirs de Chypre (2004-2005): 48′ video, crossed memories of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots on the theme of the border, with the support of Cinéma en Lumière, Marseille / Cyprus. > Dress Codes (2006): 52′ video, a collection of women’s testimonies on the theme of the appropriation of clothing.
