Biography

Born in 1972 in Niigata (Japan), Noriko Baba is a composer.

Trained at the Ircam and the CNSM in Paris, she won a composition and orchestration prize there. Noriko Baba received several scholarships such as those from Akiyoshidaï, the Sacem, the Akademie Schloss Solitude, the Casa de Velázquez and the Villa Kujoyama. She has received the Grand Prix for International Composition at the Takefu Festival, the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’arte prize, and the support of confirmed performers – the ensembles 2e2m, Court-Circuit, Ascolta, L’instant Donné, Intercontemporain, Cairn, Nomade, Ives, Sillages, Balcon, Next Mushroom Promotion. – which have enabled her to develop extremely sensitive and expressive works behind their apparent economy of means.

The project she is carrying out at Villa Medici, named Anch’io son’ pittore, confronts the traditional aesthetics of her native country with the more modern aspects of Guillaume Apollinaire, through the search for music that is both visual and aural, highlighting the beauty of writing and the Calligrammes.
