Biography

Mikel Urquiza (1988, Bilbao) studied composition at Musikene with Gabriel Erkoreka and Ramon Lazkano, then at the CNSM in Paris with Gérard Pesson. His music has been performed by many French musicians, including pianist Wilhem Latchoumia, Quatuor Diotima, l’Instant Donné, C Barré and Ensemble Intercontemporain, as well as soprano Sarah Maria Sun, ascolta and ensemble mosaik in Germany, mdi ensemble in Italy and the New European Ensemble in Holland. He collaborates with the most important Basque music institutions, such as the Basque National Orchestra, the BBVA Foundation and the San Sebastian Musical Fortnight. His music has been heard at MATA New York, Musikprotokoll Graz, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, ECLAT and the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik.

In 2019-2020, it is sponsored by the Peter Eötvös Foundation in collaboration with Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne.
