Jackson Fourgeaud, aka Jackson
Period: 2015-2016
Profession: Composer Jackson, born in 1979, is a musician, researcher and hybridizer. Discovered for his musical work as Jackson And His Computerband, he has signed two albums on the English label Warp Records (
SMASH in 2005 then
GLOW in 2014). These creations testify to his taste for deconstructing musical genres and for composite, exploratory writing. In 2014, Jackson designed and conceived the ” Computerband “, an electronic instrumental complex which he presented on an international tour and at numerous music festivals (Sonar, Melt, Summer Sonic, Todays Art, Villa Aperta…). After a warm reception from the public and critics alike, Jackson went on to invent other instruments for the “Instrumentarium”. This electroacoustic laboratory was presented in 2015 at Ircam (Ircamlive), then as part of Daniel Buren’s exhibition
Au fur et à mesure (travaux in situ et situés) in Paris and at Palazzo Tiepolo in Venice for the opening of the Biennale. There, he gave a series of performances entitled
Light Metal Music for the French gallery Kamel Mennour. These performances are based on sculptures using sound waves, flux, algorithms and the transformation of the light spectrum into sound. Jackson’s stay at the Villa Médicis will be the occasion for the creation of an opera,
Operator , in which the human voice will be replaced by particle sonification and sound generated, among other things, by a fluid of molecules.
