Art history
Born in Paris in 1981, Gaylord Brouhot is an art historian.
Holder of a doctorate in art history and a Brevet de Technicien Supérieur in fashion design, Gaylord Brouhot was awarded the “Prix de l’Université” by the Conseil départemental du Val-de-Marne for his thesis entitled Le portrait du costume : une esthétique du pouvoir médicéen (1537-1609), to be published in spring 2022 by Presses Universitaires du Septentrion in the new collection “Modes et apparences : questions d’histoire”, edited by Isabelle Paresys and Damien Delille.
Since 2008, he has taught art history and the history of fashion and the decorative arts. He has organized several colloquia on art in France, Italy and the Netherlands between the 15th and 18th centuries, and in 2019 co-edited the collective work Il sogno d’arte di François Ier. Italy at the French court .
His project at Villa Medici aims to demonstrate the interaction between the fashion portrayed in the portraits of Christine de Lorraine and Marie de Medici, and their joint actions in Tuscany and France to boost an international luxury economy and shape a media image exclusive to the Medici.
Each year, the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici organizes an international competition to select fellows who will be welcomed at the Villa Medici in Rome for a 12-month residency in creation, experimentation and research (residency begins in September, ends in August).
