Scriptwriting
Benjamin Crotty graduated from Yale University in 2002, and went on to study film and video at Le Fresnoy – Studio National. Since then, he has shown his films at festivals such as Locarno, Rotterdam, NYFF and TIFF, and at institutions including MoMA, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and Tate Modern.
His debut feature Fort Buchanan had its world premiere at Locarno in 2014 and its North American premiere at MoMA / Film Society of Lincoln Center as part of the New Directors / New Films festival in March 2015. Norte distributed the film theatrically in June 2015 and Grasshopper in the US.
His short film Le Discours d’acceptation glorieux by Nicolas Chauvin was shown at Locarno this summer, where it won the Fundación Casa Wabi – Mantarraya prize.
He lives and works in Paris.
Each year, the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici organizes an international competition to select fellows who will be welcomed at the Villa Medici in Rome for a 12-month residency in creation, experimentation and research (residency begins in September, ends in August).
