Musical composition
Bastien DAVID (b. 1990) studied composition with Bernard Cavanna and José Manuel Lopez Lopez at the Conservatoire de Gennevilliers. He is currently a student in Gérard Pesson’s composition class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
His music has been performed by soloists from l’ensemble Intercontemporain, l’Ensemble TM +, l’Instant Donné, 2E2M, Court-circuit, the trio K/D/M, la Main Harmonique, Zafraan-ensemble, Xamp, the Selini quartet, the Tchalik quartet, and the Aleph ensemble, for which he received two state commissions. His music has been broadcast on GRM’s Acousmonium and on France Musique. Bastien took part in the international Opéra en Création event in Aix-en-Provence, and is now a member of the European Network of Opera Academies (ENOA).
His pieces have been programmed at the Festival Présences de Radio France, the Festival RadioFrance Occitanie Montepellier, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Festival Messiaen, the Festival Aujourd’hui Musiques, the festivals Why note, Klasik, le Bruit de la musique, as well as the Impuls Festival in Berlin. His music has been performed in venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, the Opéra Comédie in Montpellier, the Théâtre de l’Aquarium at the Cartoucherie de Vincennes, the Marbrerie in Montreuil and the Radial Système in Germany.
In 2018, the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Paris awarded him an encouragement prize. Upcoming projects include a piece for the Printemps des Arts Festival in Monaco and a commission from France Musique for Anne Montaron’s program Création mondiale. Several of his scores are published by Éditions Henry Lemoine.
Each year, the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici organizes an international competition to select fellows who will be welcomed at the Villa Medici in Rome for a 12-month residency in creation, experimentation and research (residency begins in September, ends in August).
