Occupation: Designer Born in 1978 in Brittany, Yoan De Roeck currently lives and works in Paris. Trained in communication arts and techniques at the École Supérieure Estienne, in 2001 Yoan De Roeck was awarded a scholarship to work as a researcher at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique in Nancy, under the direction of Peter Keller. The work developed during this year was aimed at demonstrating the possibilities of typography in volume and reading on the move. The results of this research are the subject of various publications and conferences. In 2004, he was awarded a one-year residency at the French Academy in Rome, Villa Medici, where he co-developed a publishing project with writer Arno Bertina, photographer Ludovic Michaux and philosopher and writer Bastien Gallet: Anastylose/Rome/archeological play in two acts and an aside – published in March 2006, by Editions Fage. Drawn by four hands, chapter by chapter, “the ensemble takes an untimely hold of a major site of eternal Rome, the Ara Pacis, through the consideration of a period that begins before our era and ends under the geometrical illumination of the sinister Mussolinian farce. Haunted by the ghost of a monument, the book exposes itself as a turbulent, imaginary monument. From this point of view alone, it achieves an undeniable feat that is served by an often dazzling graphic invention.” (comments by Pierre Parlant).
