Biography

Sylvie Chokroun
Period: 2007-2008
Occupation: Designer Born in 1977, lives and works in Paris. She is an art director, typographer and calligrapher. After graduating from the Renoir, Duperré and Estienne graphic arts schools in Paris, Sylvie Chokroun went on to specialize in Typographic Design at the Estienne school, graduating with “excellent” honors. For the Bomberg research unit (Jussieu), she designed the Hebrew typeface “Nathan”, intended for a bilingual Latin/Hebrew publication. Nathan is optimized for reading by non-Hebrew speakers, and for page layouts in very small sizes. It also ensures correct positioning of all signs (consonants, vowels and cantilation accents). This typeface was awarded a “Certificate of excellence in type design” at the ATYPI (International Typographic Association) “Langage and Culture Type” international competition, in 2001. It is currently distributed by Masterfont (Israel). From 2001 to 2007, Sylvie was Artistic Director of a Corporate Design agency (Paris): creation of identities, graphic universes and deployment across all media, graphic charters, specific communications… In 2001, she created and developed the Gaz de France identity, and designed the Gaz de France© typography, which won the Top Com’ d’argent award in 2002. Since then, she has worked as artistic director on numerous identity projects. Sylvie Chokroun has been practicing and teaching Latin calligraphy for many years.
