Inevitable Music , a cycle of sound translations of Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings. He frequently collaborates with author Célia Houdart and set designer Olivier Vadrot on transdisciplinary and site-specific projects. He has created sound environments for choreographic pieces by DD Dorvillier, Sylvain Prunenec and Rémy Héritier. At Villa Medici, Sébastien Roux proposes to reactivate, in the form of sound translations, some of the 300 wall drawings that Sol LeWitt produced in Italy between 1968 and 2007, including those made at Villa Medici between 2001 and 2003. During a stay in the United States, Sébastien Roux studied a series of drawings by Sol LeWitt. He found them to be quite different from the American artist’s Italian corpus, noting that elementary forms and primary colors give way to more assertive motifs and more complex color schemes. This residency will provide an opportunity to imagine new approaches to translation, to explore the question of the spatialization of sound pieces, and to approach the question of translation from a theoretical angle.
