Profession: Art historian Born in Lamballe in 1971. Mickaël Szanto studies the art market in 17th-century France, an area of research to which he has devoted numerous articles, including “Libertas artibus restituta. He is also studying the place of northern artists in the revival of the arts in the Grand Siècle (“The fortunes of a northern artist in Seventeenth century Paris: the forgotten years of Herman van Swanevelt”, The Burlington Magazine, CXLV, March 2003, century issue). He is currently interested in the political use of works of art in the 17th century. His stay at the Villa Medici aims to analyze the role of works of art in the power relations between Rome and Paris from the Borghese to the Barberini (1605-1644).
