Biography

Mathieu Weiler
Period: 2002-2003
Profession: Plastician Born in 1976 in Grenoble. He lives and works in Paris. He moved to the Paris region at the age of three, then to Brussels when he was fourteen. He studied for a year at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles before joining Jean-Michel Alberola’s studio at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he began his series on freeways and the cinematograph. He graduated in 2001 with honors. His stay at Villa Mèdicis was a year of research into the link between painting and cinema, working in Ingres’ studio, on the moving image and above all on the relationship between Cinecittà and fascism. He then worked at the Centre des Récollets in Paris from 2004 to 2006. He currently works at La Ruche. While continuing his work, he opens up new avenues with his Wood-cutting projects.
