Musical composition
Born in Lima, Peru, Juan Arroyo studied composition at the Lima and Bordeaux Conservatories, then at the CNSM in Paris. He deepened his musical knowledge at with Voix Nouvelles and the Cursus IRCAM. He has been guided by eminent composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Heinz Holliger, Henri Pousseur, Kaija Saariaho, Mauricio Kagel, Michael Levinas, Luis Naón and Stefano Gervasoni. His work has won numerous awards, including the Prix de la Fondation Francis et Mica Salabert in 2013 and the Prix de l’Académie de Beaux-Arts de France in 2015.
He has received prestigious commissions from the French Ministry of Culture, Centre Henri Pousseur, SACEM, Proxima Centauri and Quatuor Tana. His works are regularly performed by such eminent ensembles and performers as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Linea, Ensemble LAPS, l’Itinéraire, L’Arsenale, Orchestre National du Pérou, Claude Delangle, Jeanne Maisonhaute, Antonio Politano, and Maribé Charrier. His music has been performed at renowned festivals such as Festival Manca, Archipels, Mixtur, Rhizome, La Chaise-Dieu, Cervantino, Ars Musica and Transit Festival. He was composer-in-residence at the Centre Henri Pousseur in 2014, at IRCAM in 2015 and member of the Académie de France in Madrid for 2016/17. He has just been commissioned by the Centre d’Art Musicale Art Zoid for a new hybrid quartet.
