Fabien Lévy

Profession: Composer Fabien Lévy is a French composer born in Paris on December 11, 1968. He studied composition with Gérard Grisey at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, musical analysis with Michaël Levinas, ethnomusicology with Gilles Léothaud, and orchestration with Marc-André Dalbavie. Fabien Lévy is currently Professor of Composition at Columbia University in New York. He previously taught orchestration at the Berlin Conservatory (Hochschule für Musik Hanns-Eisler) between 2004 and 2006, and was a lecturer at the Sorbonne and pedagogical advisor at IRCAM (1998-2001). He has won numerous prizes, including the Composer’s price from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation in 2004, and the Unesco Rostrum for his piece for viola and orchestra Hérédo-Ribotes in 2002. His instrumental (orchestra, chamber music, soloists) and electronic works have been performed by the Quatuor Habanera, Ensemble l’Itinéraire, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, London Sinfonietta, Berlin Radio Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Claude Delangle and Ensemble Argento, among others. His works are published by Billaudot and, since 2008, by Ricordi Germany.
