Occupation: Sculptor Fragments y non finito Move the workshop. My practice is not content with the repetition of a mania. On the contrary, it requires constant re-examination. Construction, de-construction. And sometimes doing nothing at all. I recently visited an exhibition of Marcia Hafif’s work, the Italian period. Paintings that make you want to paint. Mannerism and Baroque. Paradoxes, quotations, artifice, maximum contrast. Power, ideology and decorum. Daniel Arasse quotes Montaigne in his brief history of Mannerism: “The world is a perennial branloire, I do not paint the being, I paint the passage.” If art history can take different forms while repeating itself, its memory gives breadth to the present and probabilities for the future. In Rome, there are squares, fountains, churches, gardens, palaces… Sculpture is an art of passage, and I’m primarily interested in it as an unfinished form. Leaving its base, it never ceases to spread endlessly, from architecture to landscape. The absence of limits is both a seductive and distressing idea. The archtectural, objectal, organic and semantic planes and their articulation in space. A sculpture can also be a word. A lyrical song. An elephant surmounted by an obelisk… Compressed time.
