Profession: Restorer Ariane Segelstein is a curator-restorer of contemporary sculpture, specializing in preventive conservation, with a degree from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. She spent 1996/97 at the Villa Medici, where she developed a database of conservation products for movable collections. The products are inventoried in several European countries and fully documented thanks to the library of the ICCROM International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome. At the same time, a real-time aging test campaign was carried out on 80 products. After her stay in Rome, Ariane Segelstein continued her work to improve knowledge of restoration products, an important theme for the profession which did not yet have tools of this type. She contributed to various database projects with the Centre de Conservation du Québec (Prix d’excellence awarded to the CCQ by the Canadian Museums Association for its ” Préservart ” database), the Laboratoire de Recherche des Monuments Historiques and the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France. His work in cooperation with researchers has been published. The Zéphyr database was developed at the LRMH and is now available to conservation professionals. Her experience as a restorer has been passed on to prestigious institutions such as the Musée National d’Art Moderne-Centre Georges Pompidou and the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain. Today, Ariane Segelstein is involved in heritage conservation as a restorer and preventive conservation consultant for public and private collections.
