¡ Viva Villa! - 2018 Edition

29.09 - 07.10.2018

viva villa 2018

The ¡ Viva Villa! festival was born in 2016 under the joint impetus of three French artistic residencies of international stature: the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto and Casa de Velázquez in Madrid.

Festival of artist residencies
September 29 to October 7, 2018
Villa Méditerranée – Marseille

Conceived from its first edition as a free annual event, the festival brings together the resident artists of these three major institutions, with a resolutely cross-disciplinary approach. Within the same program, disciplines intersect, meet and enter into dialogue. ¡ Viva Villa! offers the public a lively overview of young contemporary creation, through the plurality of viewpoints and perspectives that characterize it.

Curated by Cécile Debray and Federico Nicolao, the ¡ Viva Villa! festival is structured around an exhibition route whose thematic orientations offer an overall reading as much as they underline the singularity of each of the artists exhibited. As a counterpoint to the exhibition, a program of performances, concerts, readings, films, meetings and round-table discussions gives rhythm and dimension to the festival. These debates, open to all, provide an opportunity to examine current issues in contemporary creation, artistic research and work in residence.

After two Parisian editions – at the Palais Royal in 2016 and at the Cité internationale des arts in 2017 – ¡ Viva Villa! with the support of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the French Institute and the Académie des Beaux Arts, moves to the Villa Méditerranée in Marseille from September 29 to October 7, 2018.
