Conversation between Éric Baudelaire and Marcella Lista.

ÉricBaudelaire, currently a resident at the French Academy in Rome—Villa Medici, exhibited a project titled “Après” at the Centre Pompidou in September 2017, curated by Marcella Lista.
Following the attacks of November 13, 2015, in Paris and Saint-Denis, Éric Baudelaire felt an urgent need to find a way to make sense of what was unfolding. The starting point for the project is his film *Also Known as Jihadi*, which portrays a young French man who chose to leave for Syria. The daily screening of the film is accompanied by an exhibition organized around an “Abécédaire” (alphabetical collection) composed of works from the Centre Pompidou’s collection, as well as events and discussions.

Éric Baudelaire is an artist and filmmaker. His practice is rooted in research on contemporary history. His work includes photographs, prints, performances, lectures, and publications, which he incorporates into installations centered on his films.
Marcella Lista is a former resident of the Villa Medici (2010–2011). An art historian, she has devoted her research to the practices of total art in^{the 20th century} . Since 2004, she has also served as program director at the Louvre Auditorium and has curated numerous exhibitions.

The film Also Known as Jihadi will be screened on Wednesday, February 7.

: A conversation with Dov Lynch, diplomat and novelist, hosted by the resident artist Éric Baudelaire, moderated by Martine Van Geertruijden

Dov Lynch is an Irish diplomat and essayist who specializes in international security issues, particularly relations between Russia and the European Union. Dov Lynch is currently a political advisor at the UN and also works as a novelist. In 2009, he published an essay about his travels in a separatist state in the Caucasus, *Improbable Abkhazia* (Editions Autrement), under the pen name Leon Colm. In 2015, he published his first novel, *Mer Noire* (Editions Anacharsis), which tells the story of Dimitris, a former IRA member who flees Ireland after his father’s death in search of his brother, who has disappeared somewhere in the Caucasus. *Hauts-fonds*, his second novel (published in February 2018 by Seuil), tells the story of Klem, a former police officer who returned from the camps with his denazification certificate and fled Vienna in 1945 as the city fell to the Red Army.

Dov Lynch explores geographical and legal gray areas, the wildness at the heart of Europe, and the limits and possibilities of language, from the perspective of an English-speaking writer working in a language that is not his own.

This event offers an opportunity to discover this mysterious figure—a talented author—and his unique artistic world, coinciding with the publication of his new novel *Hauts-fonds*.
