Project co-presented by Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels with the Académie de France à Rome – Villa Médicis and Romaeuropa Festival 2023

As part of the third edition of the Romaeuropa Festival, Villa Medici hosts Rite of Passage – Solo II by Bintou Dembéléa show that explores the themes of colonization and the migratory journey.

Recognized as one of the pioneers of hip-hop dance in France, Bintou Dembélé returns to the Villa Médicis – where she recently developed her research project as artist-in-residence – to present Rite de passage – Solo II. In this performance, Bintou Dembélé explores the memory of the body to construct an open reflection on historical, social and universal issues. To music by composer and musician Charles Amblard, dancer Michel Onomo, aka Meech, offers a solo performance in the heart of the Académie de France in Rome. A renowned DJ, dancer and choreographer, Meech has distinguished himself as one of the greatest talents in hip-hop dance, winning the Juste Debout international dance competition at Bercy four times.
