On April 17, in collaboration with NABA, fashion historian Olivier Saillard will hold a conference in the Grand Salon of Villa Medici on the body and silhouettes in fashion, and their influence on designers and stylists through the ages. Luigi Piccolo, director of Sartoria Farani, will be in conversation with Olivier Saillard during the event.

This event is part of the Racconti di moda, costumi e archivi cycle of meetings organized by NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, open to the public and students of the school’s Biennio Specialistico in Fashion and Costume Design.

Taking fashion and costume archives as a starting point, this series of lectures, organized and moderated by Clara Tosi Pamphili (architect, historian, art critic and NABA lecturer), explores the cultural challenges of contemporary fashion design, from conservation and accessibility to staging and storytelling.

The talk byOlivier Saillard, fashion historian, curator and NABA lecturer, will focus on the modification of bodies, and therefore of mannequins, in different historical periods. He will show how these transformations affect the display of archival garments at major exhibitions. It will also offer a study of silhouettes over the centuries and how they have influenced the work of the great fashion designers.
