Atlas carries the celestial sphere, and with it the known world, on his shoulders. Like all “load-bearing figures”, its action and equilibrium allow us to reflect on structures and support systems, from pedestals to major infrastructures. Invited to discuss the theme of the 20th issue of the art history magazine Studiolo, the Villa Médicis boarders propose a lecture-performance based on works, images, narratives and sound compositions to think about the histories and forms of support and sustainability, reversal and reciprocity. With the participation of Francesca Alberti (art historian, director of the Villa Medici Art History Department and editor-in-chief of Studiolo magazine), Chiara Franceschini (art historian) and boarders Pierre Adrian (writer), Séverine Ballon (composer, cellist), Alix Boillot (artist), Ophélie Dozat (architect), Hamedine Kane (artist and film-maker), Justinien Tribillon (curator, editor, writer).
