Biography

Born in 1976, Casey lives in Blanc-Mesnil. A rapper, her music tackles issues of racism and France’s slave and colonial past. She has released several solo(Tragédie d’une trajectoire, 2006; Libérez la bête, 2011) and collaborative albums, and appears on numerous tracks by other artists. She also starred in Razerka Ben Sadia-Levant’s play Timon d’Athènes (Maison des métallos, 2011) and in David Bobée’s Viril with writer Virginie Despentes and actress Béatrice Dalle. She works with the Zone libre and Asocial Club collectives.

Casey’s sound is hardcore, dark and terribly sincere. On the bangs of any box, she follows her instinct and claims a punk side. Punk, too, when she takes part in the Ausgang project with Sonny Troupé, Manusound and between progressive rock and rap. Casey’s cheeky flow hits the nail on the head, highlighting the darker side of French society. To be (re)discovered as a matter of urgency.

Since 2018, rapper Casey is one of the artists associated with the Ateliers Médicis de Clichy-Montfermeil. Her stay at Villa Médicis in May 2021 is part of a new program of cross-residencies with Les Ateliers.
