Concert Thursday, January 26, 8pm
Acoustic guitar: Gaëtan Roussel
Piano: Reyn Ouwehand
Grand Salon de la Villa Médicis
Gaëtan Roussel, guest artist at the Villa Médicis, will give a concert in the Grand Salon, the newly refurbished historic salon of the Académie de France in Rome. The concert will feature pieces from his entire repertoire, including Louise Attaque, film music and personal compositions.
“I was 17 the first time I walked the streets of Rome. I was also 17 when I discovered the existence of the Villa Medici. I don’t remember visiting the gardens at the time, but the dream that took root in my mind is still very present: one day I’ll go to the Villa Medici. Who knows why a young man of 17 would implant such an idea in his skull without much knowledge of what one could do there at the time? Villa Medici as the Italians call it. But “you can’t be serious when you’re 17″. Christ’s age later, I was invited to spend a few days on the Coline du Pincio, with the added bonus of being able to devote my time to writing. Free. During these days of freedom spent at the Villa, I’ll have the chance to give a little concert. Accompanied by my guitar, I tell myself I’m going to present songs from all the stories I’ve had and am lucky enough to have lived through: songs by Louise Attaque, pieces composed for others, titles from my solo repertoire, themes from film scores. A little stroll through my little repertoire, along the different paths I’ve taken, paths which, it’s true, lead to Rome.”
