Biography

Vittoria Assembri (1982, Monaco) is a sound artist and researcher whose practice lies at the intersection of sound art, radio art, and public architecture. She conducts research based on deep listening and field recording, drawing on feminist, ecological, and situated perspectives, and explores marginalized sociocultural processes and archives to reconfigure an affective and political landscape of resistance and radical imagination. Her work has been presented in Europe, Asia, and South America in the form of performances and installations. She studied architecture at Sapienza University of Rome and electroacoustic music production at the Ipostasi Center in Milan.

Project

Her residency project draws on 20th-century radio sound archives, FM/AM interference, magnetic media, and unstable circuits. Radio is conceived as a space permeated by memory, noise, and presence, where each instance of interference reveals a perceptible trace. Vittoria will draw on the archives of Rai Teche and the Istituto Centrale per i Beni Sonori ed Audiovisivi (ICBSA). At Villa Medici, she will conduct on-site recordings using contact microphones, antennas, and magnetic tape, engaging in listening as a critical act capable of opening up alternative modes of perceiving space and collective experience.
