Profession: Composer Nicolas Chaix was born in Paris in 1974. A musician and producer who has been active on the French electronic music scene for over fifteen years, he has always brought together elements and production techniques from a variety of sources (dance music, house and techno, sound design, field recording, sampling, sound synthesis). He has explored various artistic fields and formats outside the context of “club” music in the strict sense (planetarium concerts, musical rereading of silent films, radio mixes). Self-taught, since 1997 he has played in the most important electronic music clubs and festivals in Europe and around the world. As part of his project at Villa Medici, Nicolas Chaix aims to explore new territories, to master new production and composition techniques, and to create music that should be as much about external sounds as it is about computers. The geographical dimension and the immediate environment are essential to the realization of this project, which aims to exploit only the sound sources and materials found on site. The sounds-signature of the city of Rome as raw material that blends with the dimension of affectivity. A need to elevate oneself to establish a cartography of the intimate with a spontaneous and sincere approach.
