Architecture
Matteo Albergoni
Period: 2006-2007
Profession: Architect Trained as a draughtsman, then as a planner (Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles and Faculté d’Aix-Marseille), Matteo Albergoni began theoretical research at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes, extending the practical and aesthetic questions he had previously encountered into the realms of cultural science and philosophy. From the outset, this journey at the crossroads of research into knowledge and artistic practice has aimed to shed light on the art of building and designing living spaces today. His work, as well as his occasional collaborations as a project manager or contractor, all converge on a single question: what are the conditions of possibility for creative intervention in reality? Backed by the tradition of architectural theory, which recognizes this discipline as an art in its own right alongside the fine arts, but which must confront the problem of the social and political reality in which it is practised, M.Albergoni sees the work of planning: the “project” must be constantly nourished by an enlightened humanism that helps to find the right combination between an aesthetic foundation and an ethical requirement, between a functional treatment of needs and an intelligence of form proper to artistic work. In Rome, Matteo Albergoni is working on ways of bridging the gap between spatial design and the know-how of craftsmen involved in maintaining and creating public spaces.
