Biography

Giulia Andreani was born in 1985 in Venice (Mestre), Italy. She lives and works in Paris and Montrouge. After training at the Venice School of Fine Arts, Giulia Andreani moved to Paris, where she studied History of Contemporary Art at the Université Paris IV-Sorbonne. An artist-researcher, since 2010 she has kept an “atlas “, a sort of diary made up of a wealth of images and documents: historical archives, still frames, family photos, all of which form the matrix of a work in perpetual ramification. Like a family tree, with some branches dying and others enduring, certain images acquire increasing importance: they are sorted, recomposed and reproduced on canvas, through the subjective filter of “watercolor” painting, in a restricted chromatic field between gray and blue. In this way, Giulia Andreani confronts history with its dependence on images, pointing out the gaps in collective memory.
