Francesco Filidei

Profession: Composer Francesco Filidei was born in Pisa in 1973. He graduated from
Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence, where he won unanimous first prizes in organ and composition. He took advanced courses with Salvatore Sciarrino , Giacomo Manzoni , Sylvano Bussotti and, for organ, with Jean Guillou in Zurich . In 2000, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he obtained a diploma in composition, with honors. At the same time, he attended the Ircam composition course. As a soloist and composer, he has performed in venues such as the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Theaterhaus in Vienna, the Suntory Hall and Opera House in Tokyo, the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Rachmaninoff Hall at the Moscow National Conservatory and the Tonhalle in Zurich, but also at renowned festivals such as Milano Musica, the Venice Biennale, Archipel in Genoa, World Musik Days in Stuttgart, the Mata festival in New York, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Darmstadt Ferienkurse, Huddersfield, Buenos Aires Proa, Printemps des Arts in Monaco. As an organist, he has performed numerous premieres by leading contemporary composers and many young composers. He has recorded his work for various European radio stations. His works have been recorded by Ars Publica and RAI TRADE. They have been performed by leading contemporary music ensembles such as l’Itinéraire, Alter Ego, Instant donné, NEM, EOC, l’Intercontemporain, Le Percussion de Strasbourg, Klangforum, Musikfabrik, Linea, 2E2M, Recherche, Ascolta, Next Mushroom Promotion, Tokyo Synfonietta, Ars Ludi, Icarus, Ictus, Signal ensemble, and by orchestras such as RAI Torino, ORT and the Vienna Radio Orchestra, which dedicated a concert to his music at the Monaco Biennale. In 2006, he was composer-in-residence at the
Shloss Solitude Academy in Stuttgart, received the
Musikpreis from the city of Salzburg (Austria) and was commissioned by the IRCAM reading committee. In 2007, he received the Takefu Prize and was invited to Casa Vélasquez in Madrid for two years. In 2009, he won the prestigious Siemens Förderpreis and a commission from France. In 2011, his work “Macchina per scoppiare Pagliacci” was awarded the Rostrum of International Composer in Vienna and the Picasso-Miró Medal by UNESCO. Numerous concerts dedicated to his music are scheduled in Japan, Germany, the USA, Switzerland and Sweden. He has taught composition and organ at the University of Iowa, the University of Santander, the Takefu Academy in Japan, Voix Nouvelle de Royaumont and the Accademia Musicale de Toscane. He is currently working on a commission for the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne. He is a resident composer at the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Medici.
