Born in 1969 in Saint-Rémy (Saône-et-Loire), Céline Bonnot-Diconne is a restorer of works of art. She works exclusively on leather and skin objects.
She holds a Master’s degree in Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Property from the University of Paris 1, as well as a Master’s degree in Archaeology from the University of Lyon 2 in 1992. In 1993, she left for Great Britain to do an internship at the Leather Conservation Centre in Northampton, then to Canada, where she trained successively at the Canadian Conservation Institute (Ottawa), the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver and the Historic Resources Conservation Branch of Parks Canada (Ottawa). On her return, she joined the Atelier Régional de Conservation-Nucléart in Grenoble, where she became project manager for the “leather” collections until 2002, when she set up her own company.
In 2005, she opened the 2CRC, Centre de Conservation et de Restauration du Cuir, a unique facility in France dedicated exclusively to the restoration of leather objects, with dedicated technical resources. She works in close collaboration with archaeologists and curators from the Musées de France and Monuments Historiques, both in terms of preventive conservation and the treatment and study of objects. Our approach is that of “museum” restoration, combining respect for the original work of art, ethics and high technical standards. His experience with polychrome gilded leathers is internationally recognized.
As part of the Académie de France, the aim of his research was to gain a better understanding of the historical and technical aspects of “Cordoba leathers”, in order to understand their importance, measure alteration phenomena and better understand their restoration.
She was coordinator of the “Leather” working group of ICOM-CC (International Council of Museums – Conservation Committee) and has received several awards: laureate of the Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet pour la Vocation (Promotion Philippe Noiret 1994), laureate 2004 of the Prix “Jeune Artisan d’Art”, mention “Savoir-faire” in 2005 of the Prix Rhône-alpins du Patrimoine, etc.
In 2015, she was named Master of Art by the French Minister of Culture.
