Bernard Comment

Profession: Writer Born in 1960 in Porrentruy, he studied in Geneva with Jean Starobinski and in Paris with Roland Barthès . In 1986, he moved to Tuscany and taught at the University of Pisa, while also working as a sports journalist. Later, in Paris, he became a researcher at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and published his first novel in 1990, under the title
L’ombre de mémoire . Resident at the Villa Médicis from 1993 to 1994, he is the author of novels and short stories and the winner of several literary prizes. He co-wrote the screenplays with Alain Tanner for the films
Fourbi (1996),
Requiem (1998),
Jonas et Lila, à demain (1999),
Paul s’en va (2004) and translated many of Antonio Tabucchi’s Italian titles, including
Pereira prétend and
Tristano meurt . Since 2004, he has directed the
Fiction&Cie collection at Editions du Seuil. In 2010, he is editor, with Stanley Buchtal, of
Fragments , a collection of Marilyn Monroe’s intimate writings, poems and letters.
