Reports from Rome by French Architects in Italy and the Mediterranean World in the 19th and 20th Centuries. The exhibition *Italia Antiqua*, the fourth of its kind, concludes an important thematic series that began exactly twenty years ago, focusing on the “Envoys from Rome” by architect fellows from the 19th century through 1950. The three previous exhibitions, held between 1981 and 1992, focused primarily on the sites of Rome and Pompeii, as well as the theme of French architects’ travels to Greece. This exhibition, the result of a fruitful collaboration between the Villa Medici and the French School of Rome, explores a previously unexplored aspect of the “Envois”—namely, ancient Italy—through some twenty characteristic monuments and sites, including: Villa Adriana, Tivoli, Ostia, the Temple of Fortuna in Palestrina, the Palace of Tiberius on Capri, the Theater of Verona, and the Temple of Serapis in Pozzuoli.
