Medici Residency with the Ménagerie de Verre
Choreography
Zoé Lakhnati (1999, France) is a dancer and choreographer based between Paris and Brussels. She graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon in ballet in 2019 and from P.A.R.T.S in 2022. She has collaborated as a performer with Mette Ingvartsen, Mathilde Monnier, Georges Labbat and Némo Flouret, and as an artistic assistant with Robyn Orlin and Dimitri Chamblas. In 2022, she created Where the fuck am I? with Per Anders Kraudy Solli, then in 2024, her solo This is la mort was presented at the Raffinerie – Charleroi Danse and at the Ménagerie de verre in March 2025, where she is associate artist. She has co-organized the De l’impertinence artistic laboratory with Dora Pentchev since 2021.
Her research project at Villa Medici combines choreographic practice and theoretical reflection on the links between body, power and narrative. It draws on the study of fascist archives, Eurospy films and contemporary scenic devices to question forms of staging power and develop an aesthetic based on camouflage and infiltration. The project examines how bodies can resist authoritarian narratives, and explores glitch dance as a way of disrupting the norms inherited from history, images and political discourse, in order to propose new forms of representation.

with La Ménagerie de verre
In 2024, La Ménagerie de verre and Villa Medici launched a cross-residency program aimed at welcoming one associate artist in Rome and one resident in Paris each year, with a particular focus on choreographic and performance artists. Each year, a choreographer - either an associate artist or in residence at La Ménagerie de verre - is welcomed at Villa Medici for a research and writing residency lasting a maximum of one month. La Ménagerie de verre in turn welcomes and makes its spaces available to an artist - a resident of Villa Medici - wishing to develop a performance project for a maximum period of one month.
