Rachel M. Cholz

Rachel M. Cholz (1991, France) is the author of the novel Pipeline (Éditions du Seuil, 2024), a poetic narrative titled No ou le pactole (La Lettre volée, 2022), and the poetry collection Trois pour cent sauvages (La Lettre volée, 2025). Her first novel won the Senghor Prize. Formerly a lighting designer and with an early career in the visual arts and theater direction, writing has become her primary focus, drawn to the many layers of interpretation that literature offers.

Her project at the Villa Medici is dedicated to adapting his novel Pipeline for the screen. The story follows the various stages of a diesel fuel smuggling operation, from various instances of siphoning to the drilling of a pipeline on the edge of a forest. This is followed by several collaborations involving a garage, taxis, and a shipyard. Drawing on the book’s narrative, the screenplay will focus on the impact of light, textures, and the organic nature of smuggling, while highlighting the connections between worlds that are polar opposites. A circular geometry that focuses on the gaze, overload, and rumor: all flows conducive to excess.
