Medici Residency with the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation
Arts and crafts
Olga Boiché (1999, France) is a visual artist based in Brussels. Her practice lies at the intersection of painting, textiles, and installation. Trained in textile design at the École Duperré in Paris, she went on to earn a Higher Diploma in Applied Arts (image, with a specialization in fashion, media, and publishing) which she earned with honors in 2022. She completed her studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where she earned a master’s degree in painting in 2024. Since 2021, her work has been exhibited in France, Belgium, and Germany, notably at Les Halles Saint-Géry, LaVallée, and Espace Vanderborght in Brussels, as well as at 6B in Saint-Denis and the Galerie du 3537 in Paris.
Her residency project, *Volière de soie*, reinterprets the *Chambre des Oiseaux*, a 16th-century painted decoration at the Villa Medici. Drawing on her repertoire of birds, trellises, and plant motifs, she has created a series of hand-painted silk works. Suspended at varying heights, these translucent surfaces take the form of cylindrical and rectangular modules reminiscent of aviaries. Through the interplay of layering, light, and movement, the installation transforms the mural from a static wall decoration into a three-dimensional space, turning a fixed scene into a living, lush, and ethereal landscape.
