Marie-Christine Statz

German designer Marie-Christine Statz spent seven years in New York, where she graduated from Parsons School of Design and worked at Narciso Rodriguez and Diane von Furstenberg. Based in Paris since 2011, she specialized in the art of tailoring at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. In 2013, she founded GAUCHERE and has since led its creative direction, combining precise cuts, minimalism and a subversive vision of modern femininity. Her collections have been part of the official Paris Fashion Week calendar since 2015. Her collaborations with Camille Henrot, Miren Arzalluz and Benjamin Millepied, among others, create a dialogue between fashion, contemporary art and the performing arts.

Deeply rooted in the art of tailoring, Marie-Christine Statz constantly explores the concepts of contrast, tension, and harmony. Each piece is designed through an ongoing dialogue between the body and movement. During her residency at Villa Medici, Statz hopes to expand on this approach by focusing on transformation. Her intention is to explore garments activated by movement—pieces that evolve in response to gestures, changes in posture, and the interaction between the body and fabric.
