Biography

Marc Gros Cannella (France) is an author, composer and performer. Born in Saint-Etienne on March 10, 1995 to a family originally from Sicily, Marc Gros Cannella has lived and worked in Paris since 2020. He oscillates between writing – literature, poetry and songs – and composing – a hybrid of pop music, rap and electronic cultures – under the pseudonym Fils Cara, or in collaboration with other performers, film and live performance. Alongside studies in Sound Design (Centre Factory, 2015) and Anthropology (Université Lumière Lyon II, 2016), he regularly posts music on the internet.

Project

As part of his residency at Villa Medici, Marc Gros Cannella will explore the notion of “Grunge Solaire” – a narrative and musical genre whose initial intuition emerged during the making of his first album, Amaretto (Microqlima, 2023). The Figues de Barbaries project will take the form of a continuum between the fabrication of a new repertoire (maquettes for a future record) and the harvesting of text and sound material for a collection of short forms (poems, short stories, notes) in which he will pursue his research into Sicilian folklore, rock and medieval philosophy, which cross, maintain or hinder the writing of his own body with its insular heritage and French culture.

Medici Residency

with the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation

As part of a partnership with the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation initiated in 2014, three Lagardère Foundation grant winners (of any nationality, age and discipline) are selected each year to spend a one- to four-week residency at Villa Medici to develop a specific research or creative project.
