Medici Residency
Visual arts
Louise Siffert (1988, France) trained as a set designer before entering the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She is a member of DOC!, a self-managed art space in Paris. Louise Siffert’s performances and films explore marginal political communities and their archives. Through the fabrication of costumes, props and soundtracks, Louise Siffert creates and invests visual sets that plunge us into a DIY, immersive and grotesque universe reminiscent of the “camp” and dissident aesthetics of artifice.
Lavender Nightmare proposes a rewriting of the lesbian vampire figure, crossing classic horror aesthetics (Universal, Hammer, Italian giallo) with literary approaches that rethink it through consent, symbiosis and alternative relationships. The project draws as much on the baroque world of gialli as it does on the artisanal methods of Mario Bava, whose tricks with light and DIY tricks invent nightmarish visions. The papier-mâché sets, fragile and artificial, open up worlds of shadows and bright colors, where mystery and horrific menace are born.
