Biography

Louise Hervé is an artist, performer and researcher. For several years, she has been exploring the archaeology of pre-20th-century performance art. This project is accompanied by a practice of drawing, reworkinghistorical and documentary sources through the graphic gesture. Her performances, films and installations, in duo with Clovis Maillet, have been presented in solo exhibitions at Crédac (F) in 2018, Kunsthal Aarhus (DK), Passerelle art center in Brest, Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver (CAN), Synagogue de Delme, FRAC Champagne Ardenne and Kunstverein Braunschweig (DE). In recent years, she has taken part in the Vienna (AT), Liverpool (GB) and Busan (KR) Biennials. She is the 2020 laureate of Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto.

The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici and the City of Montauban are launching a ground-breaking cross-residency program in partnership with trade magazine The Drawer! This first cross-residency between the Villa Médicis and the City of Montauban, birthplace of painter and draughtsman Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres – who was also a resident and then director of the Villa Médicis in the first half of the 19th century – will enable a winner selected following a call for applications to benefit from a creative residency within the two partner institutions.

Of the 25 applications received for this first edition, the selection committee, made up of representatives of the project’s organizing institutions, chose the artist Louise Hervé, who will spend one month at the Villa Médicis in Rome (February 2022), followed by one month in Montauban (mid-April to mid-May 2022). She will also receive a grant of €6,000 gross.
