Laura Centemeri (1972, Italy), director of research at the CNRS, studies environmental disasters from a pragmatic sociology perspective. Following a thesis at the University of Brescia on the Seveso disaster (2005), her work – carried out at the University of Milan, the Centro de Estudos Sociais de Coimbra and, since 2011, at the CNRS – has focused on practices for repairing environmental damage in mobilizations against major infrastructures, transnational permaculture networks and agroecological movements in Italy. Today, she is investigating improvisation as a modality of ecological action, at the interface of research and creation.
Her residency project focuses on the legacy of Giovanna Marini’s (1937-2024) musical research into the oral modes of peasant song. Based on a reflection on daily life and ritual, it aims to deepen the dialogue between this heritage and free vocal improvisation. It explores forms of vocal action based on experimentation with the voice and singing as a practical relationship with oneself, others and the environment, outside a strictly artistic framework. The project questions the place of the voice in contemporary sound ecologies – public, domestic, urban, rural – and will be presented in the form of sound documents.
