Lafawndah

Lafawndah (France, 1984) is a musician and multidisciplinary artist based in Paris. Her musical performances have been presented at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Venice Biennale, the Barbican, the Southbank Center in London, the Fondation Cartier in Paris, Haus Der Kunst in Berlin among others. After a debut EP released on the renowned English label Warp in 2016, and a debut album on the German label k7! in 2019, Lafawndah is releasing her second album ‘The Fifth Season’ in 2020 on the Latency label. She makes her directorial debut with a new opera project called La Descente D’Inanna, which she writes and directs with Californian artist Trustfall.

The creation of the opera “La Descente d’Inanna”, promoted by the French Ministry of Culture in 2021 as part of the Mondes Nouveaux project, marks a new stage in the artist’s work. With this new creation, Lafawndah seeks to produce a form capable of unifying all her practices and her artistic community, to collectively serve a founding story: that of the Descent of Inanna into the subterranean worlds and the creation of the cycle of the seasons. At Villa Médicis, Lafanwdah and Trustall will work on the composition of the songs.
