Biography

Joana Preiss is an artist, theater and film actress, performer and director. She began her career in the theater with Pascal Rambert. At the same time, she worked with artists such as Nan Goldin, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, Ugo Rondinone and Jeremy Demester. Her film career began with Olivier Assayas and Christophe Honoré. As an artist, she creates unique performances that emphasize improvisation and use her voice as an instrument, at the Espace Louis Vuitton, Kamel Mennour, St Merri church and the Fondation Cartier. She directed Sibérie, her first feature film, followed by Silent Asylum and Lands close to Paterson. She recently appeared in Maisondahlbonnema’s The Moon and Yoga for theatres , as well as in La dame aux Camélias, directed by Arthur Nauzyciel. She regularly gives public readings of literary works, notably at the Maison de la Poésie. She teaches performance art to writing students at La Cambre. She is currently developing the production of her next feature film and the performance adaptation of her poetic work Terrestre X Tra.

Project

Terrestre X Tra is a long poem for the stage, an immersive monologue, an organic and spiritual experience. The performative situation brings together body, voice, matter and atmosphere. Cross-disciplinarity and hybridization between theater and contemporary creation are at the heart of the project: a protean, multi-dimensional performance that appeals to all the senses. Terrestre X Tra adapts to the structure of each venue that accompanies me: places of research, rehearsal and performance linked to the essence of the written word and its metamorphosis for the stage.
