Biography

Jérémy Griffaud is a young artist who graduated from Pavillon Bosio (Ecole Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques de la Ville de Monaco) in 2017. He paints watercolors of an imaginary mode that he digitizes and then computer-animates. These animations can be seen as films, but also in virtual reality or as immersive video installations. He takes viewers along to share his fascination with colorful, hypnotic parallel worlds, while revealing the issues of our time.

Project

In residence at Villa Medici, Jérémy Griffaud will develop the scenography for his project The Origin of Things: The Garden, an interactive video installation combining immersive video projection and virtual reality. The spectator/player finds himself at the heart of a fantastic garden populated by strange plant species. All around them are buttons, joysticks and levers.
By activating them, he harvests certain plants, sends others to the incinerator, injects them with chemical substances, etc.
The spectators present in the installation see these interactions that the player with the headset carries out, as they are projected onto the walls of the exhibition room.
During this residency, Jérémy Griffaud will be working on the conceptualization of the scenography. How will the helmet and the spectator using it be staged? What elements of decor (device/light/spatialized sound) will physically accompany the projected image?
