Biography

Created in 2022 in Paris, FONT&ROMANI is an artisanal workshop for creation and exploration based on the Savonnerie weaving technique and the wool material. Founders Charlotte Font and Charlotte Romani are weavers and have been weaving shoulder-to-shoulder since they began their apprenticeship in 2017 at Mobilier National. FONT&ROMANI envision wool velvet, specific to the production of the Savonnerie, as a medium of plastic expression with strong singularities – color intensity, sensual relationship, etc. – but also as the bearer of narratives. – but also as the bearer of narratives that draw as much on myth as on contemporary issues.

Project

The aim of the residency is to develop the first episode of a contemporary wall hanging. The aim is to explore their relationship with the living world in an urban context marked by a paradox: never has the living world seemed so threatened, and never have we been so far from it. This observation gives rise to a lack, a nostalgia for living things that are sensitive, observable and close to us. Their intention is to observe, record and transcribe this presence in order to reveal it to distracted eyes, and recreate a sense of wonder. This will also involve research into hybrid techniques aimed at broadening their plastic language and a relationship with the local wool industry.
