Élise Blotière is a filmmaker and artist. Having studied social sciences at EHESS and the University of Rome – La Sapienza, as well as documentary filmmaking, she spent several years in Italy, where she worked primarily with visual artists. She has developed a practice that lies at the intersection of film and performance. In January 2024, she directed her first short fiction film, followed in September by Graine lumière cuire, a performance in collaboration with Laura Vazquez. In spring 2025, during a residency at Villa Medici, she directed Pietre, a film for a second performance with Laura Vazquez. Winner of the ‘Création en cours’ grant from the Ateliers Médicis for the year 2026, she is currently in residence for several months in Southern Corsica, where she is writing her second fiction screenplay.
Élise Blotière is in Rome to shoot images for a film conceived in parallel with the project to engrave a poem by Laura Vazquez on stone pedestals cut from Viterbo peperino, which will be installed in the gardens of Villa Medici this spring. The film traces the journey of the stone, from its extraction in a quarry in northern Lazio, to its shaping in the workshop of stonemason Daniele De Tomassi in Rome, to its integration into the gardens. It will be part of a performance conceived with Laura Vazquez (text and voice) and Arthur Boval (sound) to be presented at Villa Medici.
