Biography

Clémentine Bruno, born in 1994 in France, is a painter living and working between London and Paris. She received her MA in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art, London, in 2019 and from Goldsmiths University in 2017. In her work, Clémentine Bruno explores and challenges established methods of visual representation of artistic or institutional origin. Using various media such as painting, sculpture and installation, in a process of decontextualization, her practice subverts the familiar and questions the status of authorship and the authenticity of artworks. @clementinebruno Portrait © Alex Zono

Project

During her residency at Villa Medici, Clémentine Bruno aims to reinforce interest in the status of the author and artistic authenticity. During this period, she visits sites such as the Roman catacombs and Roman churches, major repositories of the legacy of Byzantine art. She undertook in-depth research into the artistic techniques employed in these places, challenging established conventions.
