Medici Residency

Cinema

Biography

Clément Postec is artistic director, curator and filmmaker. A graduate of Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Institut d’Études Politiques de Strasbourg and Sciences Po (SPEAP), he has been involved for over ten years in the development of projects at the crossroads of cinema and contemporary art, as well as in the deployment of cultural venues and organizations. In his exhibition and film projects, he focuses on crossing disciplines and experimenting with formats. He defends an artistic creation that is situated and relational, an art of experience that helps us to come to terms with major controversies and intimate questions.

Project

His residency project at Villa Medici is devoted to research for a feature film entitled Cathedral City, currently being directed with Nelson Bourrec Carter, and to laying the foundations for a collective book on cinema and care. In an age of growing awareness of the phenomena of systemic domination, what can cinema still offer us? How can this art form, at grips with the industry and the power of representation, emancipate itself from the logics of domination that structure it? Building on the empathy at work in Cathedral City, the aim is to draw up the beginnings of a manual for the care of cinema, for oneself and others, for art and its environments.

Medici Residency

Application 01.01 - 29.02.2024

Throughout the year, the French Academy in Rome welcomes artists, authors and researchers from all disciplines to carry out a specific creative or research project as part of the "Medici Residency" program. These residencies are not part of the annual residents' competition. They are short residencies aimed at carrying out a specific research or creative project. The next call is for residencies for the first half of 2025, lasting from 2 weeks to 2 months, from January to June 2025.
